“WE LIVED REALLY CLOSE. THEN REALLY FAR. JUST SO WE COULD LIVE REALLY CLOSE AGAIN.”

— Sarah and Lerthon

92 & 94. Door to door. Wall to wall.

That’s how close Sarah and Lerthon lived to one another since the day they were born. And then one day, when Lerthon was 12, he and his family moved to New York and that was that.

Spoiler alert: that wasn’t that.

On a holiday in Malta, Lerthon reached out to Sarah to jokingly remind her that she had left her gate open. On their behalf they’d like to thank whoever assembled that as it began a never ending love story. But it wasn’t so easy—they lived in different continents!

Together they’ve overcome the difficulties of a long distance relationship. There were countless flights back and forth, which felt like double the amount to Sarah who is terrified of turbulent air. Also let’s not forget the long nights on FaceTime—it’s a good thing iPhones have great batteries nowadays.

After 15 years of unintentional separation, love beat the thousands of miles that separated them. Now, they live door to door again in the sunny island of Malta, and will soon be moving into the next chapter of their lives.
